Maria finished her Master of Arts in General Linguistics in 2019 at the University of Bamberg. During her studies, she worked as an RA at the Department of General linguistics, co-coordinated Multi-CAST (Multilingual Corpus of Annotated Spoken Texts), created the Mandarin corpus in Multi-CAST and co-created the corpora for Northern Kurdish and Cypriot Greek. In her MA thesis, which received the PUSh award in 2020, she researches referential choice in Mandarin Chinese on the basis of the corpus in Multi-CAST.
Current research
Maria is currently researching language contact and change in Warlpiri, a Pama-Nyungan language spoken in Central Australia. Building a corpus of spoken texts starting from the 1950s to now, she analyses changes in word order, information structure, and prosody. For the NonGram project, she analyses Warlpiri nominal structures regarding flexible word classes and disjoint noun phrases.
She continues to work on Mandarin zero arguments on the basis of the Mandarin Multi-CAST corpus, which was the topic of her MA Thesis.
News
Maria is part of the organising committee of Emerging Topics in Typology (ETT2021; International Conference Series), an online showcase event organised by a group of PhD candidates from various universities for current PhD students in typology and descriptive linguistics. The series will take place between 25 Octover and 25 November 2021 and will consist of talks and discussions on a number of days spread over several weeks. Maria was granted the Award of the University Women's Representatives for the Outstanding Achievement of Female Students (University of Bamberg) for her MA thesis.
